Which Clutch Kit is right for me?
First, we need to identify what you would ideally like to get out of your machine relating to performance and drivability. The feedback we receive most often about the RMAX lineup is that they are very noisy when driving, particularly at cruising speeds. Most of our clutch kit options aim to keep / improve bottom end performance while also reducing the engine RPM’s – as a result, this will lower the vehicle noise experienced while driving.
1. You want to keep bottom end performance but also lower RPMs and engine noise:
If you are primarily looking to keep bottom end performance while also lowering the engine cruising RPMs, our “RMAX Improved All Around Performance Clutch Kit” will be the solution for you. This kit is offered in both “Stock” and “Oversize Tire” options and is without question our most popular kit, as you will see improvements in bottom end take-off engagement, power, and lowered cruising engine RPMs.
2. You want to improve bottom-end performance and don’t care about noise/RPMs:
If you are not concerned about engine noise / RPMs while driving but primarily want to increase the bottom end performance of the machine, then our “RMAX Improved Bottom End Clutch Kit” will be the best fit. This kit will reduce overall top speed slightly as well as elevate engine RPMs across the entire clutch shift phase and, as a result, will provide much improved bottom-end power and take-off engagement. We offer this kit in both “Stock” and “Oversized Tire” options.
3. You only want to make your machine quieter by lowering RPMs:
If you are not at all concerned with the bottom-end performance of the machine and are looking for the best solution to lower the Engine RPM then our “RMAX Lowered Cruising RPM Clutch Kit” will be the answer. With this kit, you will notice that bottom-end take-off power will be more sluggish, but you will see the cruising RPMs drop anywhere from 800-1200 RPM (depending on speed), which results in a dramatic decrease in cab noise while driving. We do offer options for this in both “Stock” and “Oversize Tire” combinations.
What if I have stock tires now but plan to upgrade to larger tires later?
We offer all of our RMAX clutch kits with both “Stock” and “Oversized” tire options. In most cases the difference between what we use to set up a “Stock Tire” vs. an “Oversized Tire” option will be with the use of the primary clutch shim that we include in all our RMAX clutch kits. For stock sized tires we recommend not using the shim. Once you make the change to larger tires, you would then want to install the clutch shim to make up for the gearing loss that occurs with oversized tires.
If I already have ECU tuning, does it need to be updated when installing a new clutch kit?
There is no need to update the ECU tuning when using our clutch kits. All our clutch testing and setups were designed to be compatible with our ECU tuning. Also, although there are several benefits of the ECU tuning, our clutch kits do not require ECU tuning to be used.
What kind of top speed can I expect to gain or lose with the clutch upgrades?
With stock ECU tuning there will be no gain or loss with top speeds. With our WR Edition ECU tuning we do remove the speed and throttle limiters which then only leaves the vehicle limited by RPM. In most cases it is not common to run to top speeds often, but we do see top speeds of around 76mph (on stock tires) without the use of the clutch shim and around 70mph with the shim installed.
